MId-Autumn at Taiwan

School View~
Guan Qian ( 館前樓) Building, for those who study 特教。

Our Art Building.

On the left is Zhong Zhen Building (中正樓) where we usually have our Jasmani.

Side door beside our Art Building. The first left turning is to the library.

I don't know why, but Taiwanese have this habit of BBQ during Mid-autumn.
The one at front with orange t-shirt is roommate no.5, while pink t-shirt at the far back is roommate no.6 whose grandma ( in zebra strips t-shirt) lives nearby~ We wen to her house for BBQ~

Marshmallow! You won't believe how HEAVENLY they taste when u BBQ them~XD

Chicken.....everyone kept BBQing but no one ate...XD

What a feast!

While we are walking back to our school, we pass by a neighborhood where there are 4 cereus in bloom~ Just in coincidence with Mid-autumn~

Purity.Unstained.

Now BBQing was fun. But as a result your hair get a really nasty smell~ (tragedy of all ppl who had long hair~they soaked up smell quickly) So when roommate 5 and roommate 3 decide to wash their hair and start blowing them dry....

We have the Hairdryer Couple! XD

The NTCU Experience

Dorm sweet dorm...Room 108.
Mine is the upper bed at the left.

My desk. A bit cluttered...wire and red plastic beg not mine~XD
Btw, the box of juice and half eaten bread is today's dinner...cost me about RM4.50.
Eating in Taiwan is a quite expensive affair.
And I still haven't found food that is both tasty and affordable~T.T

My beautiful bed~
The glass bottle is Taiwan's vacuum-packed milk, flavored malt.
Very...ahem, not tasty. But the bottle looks great~XD

Roommate no:2 who refuses to be taken a photo. She's quite a cute and lady person~XD

Roommate no:5, who ki-siaoed with me in our pic Eat.Sleep.
Snack ( borrowed from roommate no:2 for illustration purpose.XD), music and book~

My Heaven!!!
Dorm outside view. My room is just opposite our toilets.XD
Till the next time!

下個星期去台灣

For Myself, And All My Beloved Friends

Next week, I am finally* leaving the land I was born and bred in to another whole new world.
I still don't feel ready yet.

There are still so many goodbyes, so many take-cares and keep-in-touchs I want to convey to all those who knew me, befriend me and loved me.
Thank you for giving me so much, all those that are beyond words.....
I am still not ready to say goodbye.

I love you. Take care!

if I were to succumb to darkness one day....

What do you think is the most essential being an artist?

Me, I would say: Eyes, Hands, and Heart.
Out of the three, my hands were badly hurt before, my eyes wasn't in great condition ( i am badly near-sighted). And i could not say that my heart was able to perceive beauty as as a real artist does.....not yet.

So what if one day i were to succumb to darkness.....?

I went to St NIcholas Home For The Blind to help out making a banner in conjunction of Malaysia's Independence Day ( 31st Aug). My stomach was full of butterflies as i have never help out in such organization and I wonder how should i act.

The sightless ( Permit me to use this word for them) there were very kind. Most of them are males, and they came from all states of Malaysia. Some are loved, and have homes to return to, while some were cruelly abandoned by their so-called parents. They are a cheerful lot, and a majority could perform music with great timing and accurately, using pots and pans as their instruments. They would wring paper files for a living ( 1000 files for RM4...what a pittance.) and had lessons to attend daily.

We cut out reliefs for them to print out the words using rollers ( for the partial blind, guided by MIss Linda, their kindly tutor), and paints their hands with acrylic for them to "bodyglove" the banner. It might seems boring for us, but you can;t imagine what great fun was it for them. They then wrote their names ( guided, for the full blinds) and ages on the banner.

They could not see our world, just as we cannot theirs. There was actually two people, more elderly who was not born blind, but lost it in the part of their lives. I could not bring myself to ask them how was their world that suddenly lost it's colors, shapes, and brilliance, for it would be my worst nightmare to be pushed out of the world I was used to.

I could no longer paints my dreams and imagination then.
Just as Wordsworth had said: The things which I have seen I now can see no more.

I would not be able to see the morning sun, the glorious rising.
Nor witness the harmony of sunsets, in vermillion, pink, blue, red and gold.
Neither shining eyes, gentle smiles, graceful movements,
And all the wonders and beauty, and colors of the world-
If I were to succumb to darkness one day......

Tranquility of The Nature 和敬清寂

Awesome isn't it? This is the poster to my father's second solo exhibition that will be held this Friday ( 19th of June) at Dong Zen Art Gallery, Jenjarom, Selangor, Malaysia ( which is near Banting, and about one hour ride from the city of KL.)

There will be featuring 23 new production, 2 recent works, and 2 of the previous Indigo series. ( If I am not mistaken...)

I was my dad secretary for this exhibition and you can imagine how much work i have to do....and i wasn't a genius in com either, so...
Well, at least all are almost done now....and we will be heading down Dong Zen Temple on the 16th/17th to set up for the big event~

Here's is the even awesome invitation card cum postcard of the exhibition. There's a map on the back to Dong Zen Temple of you are interested.....Please attend if possible!

I GOT IN!!!!

Tada!!!!!

Yes yes yes!!!! I am accepted by ALL THREE universities!!!!
I received acceptance e-mails from Taipei Municipal University and National Taichung University, while National University of Tainan send me an official acceptance letter.

Tainan even offered me A International Student Scholarship of tuition waiver, financial aid of NT $6000 ( about RM 600) per month for 10 months of my first year, and space in dorms

Ngek ngek ngek.....Jealous? However after some discussion and reconsidering, I decided to go for National Taichung University. Not too rural as Tainan and not too urban as Taipei ( To tell the truth, I was torn apart between Taipei and Taichung....Taipei was the capital, so there will be more activities going on, while Taichung is perhaps like Penang, a suburb but not too sophisticated...)

I booked my flight with MAS and will be departing on 4th of Sept, and my first semester will start at the 13rd of Sept.....

I really hope I am choosing the path that is right for me, for there will be no turning back now....

This is the point of no return.

The Price of Loneliness

Yes yes, don't scream.
I went back to Form 6.
At the well-known PCGHS
Paying the price of 4-months worth of hair and RM 27 of Form 6 uniform

Why?
Imagine being quarantine at home and at my dad's studio, with no one to talk to ( apart from parents), nothing to do except to draw everyday ( yes, i love drawing, a fellow can't live with only ONE thing to do everyday. Like what Laurie said in "Little Women": A fellow can't live on books alone" ).And I worn my books out that I could recite the synopsis of every book in my house....

It struck me now how important is SHARING to human.
Perhaps you watched a really funny movie with you family. You wanted to share your opinion of the movie, perhaps commenting on some of the cliche scenes, or praising the acting of the cast....
But there's no one to talk to
Oh sure, there's the phone, and here's the blog, and msn....
Yet man cannot live without conversation.
There are many things words alone cannot express:the face expression, the emotions, tone of speech....
And with the phone, you can only speak to one person; in the school, you can meet up with a lot of friends without having the reason to meet up with them outside. There's no need to ask them out for shopping or movies, for in school you can just randomly catch up with them and chat about anything.....

Yes, I miss my school life
A lot.
So much that it makes me cry.
I miss my friends
Miss the school activities
Miss going for tuition ( yes, it sounds crazy..)
Missing
you

Everyone Has A First Love Story To Tell-Movies Reviews 1

Seems familiar? No? This is the tagline for the late Yasmin Ahmad's ( May she rest in peace...) best-selling " Mukhsin"

Shot in just 12 days, it won one award and one special mention at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival (2007) under the children's film category: International Jury of Generation Kplus - Grand Prix of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk for Best Feature Film and the Generation Kplus Children’s Jury Awards - Special Mention. Within the first 4 days of its release in Malaysia, it earned RM700,000 in box-office takings. It went on to have a final gross of RM2 million ( from wikipedia )

I love watching movies. Especially touching ones. But the best movies are those that are true-to the-heart. Who cares about what Oscars sweepers or whatnot " Axxxxx" ( which was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director,[and won three, for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction.... no offence to the movie, but i really don't have ANY interest in it...)

Recently there seems to be more and more " amazing" and "fantastic" movies coming up...
" A Promising Top Charter!" ..
" Two thumbs up!"...
Blah Blah Blah~

One day, i'll become like my Mom*( She slept through " Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"...and since then we are really afraid to bring her to the big screen..)

To all directors and directors-to-be and wanna-be....Please please please don't continue to stain my concepts of what movies should be....Even Alice in Wonderland ( which i was looking forward to) was quite a disappointment...

Movies, to me, are suppose to be like these:

TALENTIME

Probably the first movie I cried in the cinema.
Previously?....Well, maybe I did in the ending of LOTR, when Frodo and Gandalf departs for Grey Havens. And perhaps in the ending of The Phantom of the Opera.
But that was THE END. No surprise for tears.
In Talentime, I cried when Jeyanthi ( Mahesh Mom) hits her son and when Mahesh ask forgiveness from her...hence again, my favourite line:

" If you want me to forget her, I will, But you must teach my heart how not to love her, because it doesn't know how..."
" ...Because it doesn't know how..."
( I bought the DVD and rewatch that part...the subs are a little different from the one I saw in the big screen so i did a little rearranging...)

And the SECOND time I cried was when the song " O Re Piya " (O My Beloved) came and Hafiz found out his mother died, and he cuddle beside her....then he went to the talentime contest in white and did a tears-provoking duet with Kar Hoe.

Even if we had just experience lost,
We could always find peace
In harmony.

Though I cried too while watching Mukhsin and Gubra ( surprisingly, no tears came for Sepet), but I'll always remember the first time when I was so deeply touched.

DEPARTURES

I don't think I need to say much about this movie.
Departures (おくりびと Okuribito?) is a 2008 Japanese film by Yōjirō Takita. It won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2009 Oscars and has earned $61,010,217 in Japan as of April 12, 2009 ( taken from wikipedia)

I do think Masahiro Motoki (as Daigo Kobayashi) is a really good actor. He even reminds me a little of Tony Leong....
I love this movie. There's a quiet, peaceful feel about it.
This is what dead should be.

Tears came when Daigo was performing the ritual for Tsuyako Yamashita san ( the kind old lady running the bath house) . The way he gently caress the old woman's face, as if he was remembering her, feeling her joys and pains though touch, and the respectful yet never overwhelming way the ritual was perform, was what we had always wanted to give to our loves ones when they are past and gone:

To had lived, the beauty of life.
Perhaps not a life of sunshines,
Yet neither is a life of rainstorms .
But a life where every breath was like a dew in the drought.
And every sights and scenes are with the clarity of a dream;
I had live, and so now certainly, I must go .
In the same gentle way I had come.
In quietness.
In peace.

So lay me down to sleep now,
Good night.

I can never forget what the man working in the crematorium ( Takashi Sasano, man on the right in the bath beside Daigo) said before he clicked on the switch for the furnace for the cremation of his beloved friend Tsuyako san:

" Goodbye. We'll certainly meet again."

Indeed. We'll certainly meet again.
Don't we?

Savoring: The Unforgettable First Love -初恋红豆冰

FINALLY!!!! After such a long wait, The " Cow" ( A Niu) Directer finally released his first debut: Ice Kacang Puppy Love

Alright, i know i am out of the league to talk about love ( forgive miss-know-it-all whose first love is her fantasy novels...^^ and still is.). But even "virgins" like me could not resist the bittersweetness of love at it's most simplest.

Remember:
A time,
when the sky is still azure,
and the world is still simple and innocent
Our memories
Our songs
Our stories

Remembering, the time when we are still in love.

P/S: Everytime I saw Victor Wong singing " Lover /情人” on the trailer, i can't help laughing like a maniac......Hope I won't do that in the cinema tomorrow.....

Baking Day: Chap Goh Meh is not only the Chinese Valentines' Day...It is also the massive ang ku, bee gou and huat kueh baking day...

Presenting the sifu....

and this is how much we made: shocking

The red ones are ang kus ( savoury green bean paste stuffing), pinky stuff is huat kueh ( literally mens Cake of Prosperity) and the white stuff with something brown and dark red on top ( which is dried cat's eye and red dates) are bee gou ( which is Glutinous Rice Pudding. The toppings are as a sign of reversal, as the white color of the pudding is considered unlucky)

Tomatoes? Nay...these are a variation of ang ku called ang ee...Ee is " roundness", symbolic of unity in family. The problem is, they are suppose to look red, but my bad, I made the skin too thin...and they turn up anemic.
Someone donate some O positive please.

By the way, did you know that even in the world of cakes and pastry, there are difference of sex?
Take a look at the Male side:

And the Female...
Pssst...Actually, the female one is easier to make...They don't stick into the mold like the males...But I stand on the neutral side...^^

Reminising Love: Remembering Yasmin

With the approaching of CNY, out pops many CNY related commercials with all the catchy CNY tunes together with the unmissable colors of prosperity and luck: gold, red, orange and other loud, warm colors of spring. Shopping malls with discounts and blaring CNY songs, streets and houses decorated with red lanterns and etc, and etc.....

And so we welcome, another new year.

But, then again, we anak-anak Malaysia will truly miss something that had accompany us many a times during festive seasons, that leave us breathless and thoughtful each and everytime we watch those beautiful stories, again and again, without signs of weariness.

No one tell stories as beautiful, and as true as our greatest storyteller.

It is through " Talentime " that i truly ( and regretfully) came to appreciate and approach Yasmin's stories. I dragged my reluctant parents to the cinema to watch it on screen, and though sadly it was, erm, not well received, yet it was impossible not to fall in love with a story so simple , so pleasant, and so true to the heart.

" If you want me to leave her, I will.
But you must teach me how not to love her.*"

It was this very words, which Mahesh " spoke" when asking for forgiveness that touched me deeply, in where there's no way that any words of any language would have depict it well enough that very moment when the true beauty of love, at it's most fundamental, touches us... Except perhaps, as Wordsworth had written,to be flowing with " thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears."

Love, without borders, of no words, languages or any kind of differences, and in absence of unconquerable barriers.

For only love, would transcends all. Even time, and death.

In amidst of the joyous festive seasonand merrymaking, let us not forget those who have touches us in our livesm and proveked thoughts to ponder on, no matter how minicus,or short-lived it is.

"Jika and bertemu dengan cabang-cabang dalam hidup,
pilihlah kasih sayang
.
Itulah mesej-mesej dalam semua filem saya*!"

Yasmin Ahmad, as spoken on a radio interview by Aifm DJ

We remember, and will, as you had always do
To Choose Love.
